Transportation from Anc to Whittier question

Thanks for the info about Carnival picking up the luggage from the train in Whittier...how are they notified that you and your luggage are on the train ? We are on the Spirit May 20

Your luggage will be tagged when you get to the train station (tags you either print or get when you finalize and recieve your travel docs) You must be at the train station by 9:00 am and Carnival will have sent a luggage van to pick up all Spirit luggage. Be sure to keep out anything you may need, RX's etc..

We will be arriving in Whittier on 5/25. We will need to take either the Princess coach or Princess train to Anchorage as the independent operators cannot accommodate our daughter, who is in a wheelchair. Avis is too expensive since we need a mini-van (and sold out) and the ARR leaves too late for us to get Anchorage and then to Seward, which is our destination. Why should I choose one over the other? Any information would be appreciated about times, length of travel, etc or anything else we need to consider that I’ve not thought of.

Thank you, Robyn

Have you extended time in Alaska??? Otherwise, consider the "cost" doing the hours long backtracking that you are?? You may be able to arrange direct transportation to Seward?? Does your daughter need to remain in a W/C or is the W/C primary transportation?? PJ's taxi may be an option?

BQ, therein lies the problem. We can move her into a mini-van, but her chair (manual) does not collapse, thus taking a quite a bit of space for luggage. Since there will be five of us, we will have at least five checked bags and a couple of carry-ons. Since we will be staying for a while, we need to get a van. Our itinerary starts in Seward and every couple of days we move, Talkeetna, Denali, Fairbanks and then back to Anchorage. Due to our unique circumstances, we are unable to rent from Avis (we called the 800 number and they said they did have vans, for round-trips only. The local office phone is not yet operational) or go to Anchorage and then back track. Not optimal, but may our only choice. Any other thoughts would be appreciated. Robyn

We are using the Park connection bus so we can get from Talkeetna to whittier in the same day and not have to stay over night in Anchorage. Since we planned our own trip to Denali this option offered the same advatage as Princess direct to the wilderness option. We are taking the train to Denali then the park connection bus back to Talkeetna where we want to overnight.
