Queen Victoria ports of call

Hi all,

I must state here that i am able bodied but having a parent who is a paraplegic, do understand some of the problem that can and do arise.

I am just back from cruising on board the Queen Victoria, Sydney to Singapore leg of her world cruise.

We became friends with a few wheelchair bound passengers, who found to their discust, they were unable to leave the ship at some ports of call.

Due to the size of the Queen Victoria, she docks in container ports, that are usually out of the main town, and being a container port, were unable to allow taxis on the dock for transportation.

The busses provided for tours were not wheelchair accessable.

Another problem was getting of the boat onto the deck. A special chair was provided to alight, but transferring to this chair was impossible for some passengers.

As one gentleman said, he felt like he was in the 'Twilight Zone", on a cruise to no where.

After 28 days, and only being able to sightsee in Raboul, Saipan and Japan, even though the ship is lovely, after a while it became boring.

Cheers

When one wheelchair bound passenger asked about Singapore, they were told they would have the same problem and would probably have the same problem till Southhampton. Yet when they mentioned they only paid to Singapore, funny how arrangements were made to get them off !

To be fair, it was permanent wheelchair bound passengers that had the problems. If one is able to walk a small distance without a wheelchair, one is fine.

regards
