Venice-Ship to St Marks?

Recommended Posts

How do you get from the ship to St, Marks Square

I am reading of all kinds of boats, easy to navigate, etc.

but can't grasp what the area is where ship will dock ( port stop, not embarking btw) Is it walkable or do you have to get a vaperetto? It all seems very confusing to me.

We are thinking of a tour on our own that begins at 4:00 and we are to dock at 2:00 so trying to decide if we could make it.

Thanks for any help

If you get off the ship by 3:15 you will have no problem getting to St. Mark's by 4:00 without a major rush, but the earlier the better and the more options you have. It is walkable, how long the walk would take really depends on how lost you let yourself get on the way there. You can also do the Vaporetto tour from Piazza Roma down the Grand Canal to get there, Vap #1 or #2, #1 makes more stops and takes longer. 10-20 minute walk to Piazza Roma, depending on your walking speed and energy level. Here's one map, the port area being to the left and the A being Piazza San Marco.

from the ship you can walk to a water bus which picks up at the closed end of the quey, by the terminal buildings. you have to buy a ticket from the blue kiosk close to the water bus stop. the vendor has maps and guides available. it drops off at st marks.

it's realy very easy. returns from the drop off point. there are no other stops on the way. it's just cruise terminal to st marks and back
