Enchantment chartered?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone heard about the Enchantment of the Seas being bought out for a specific cruise and the passengers who were already booked being bumped off? I know there has been discussion about this happening with other ships, etc., but my friends in Boston told me about it on the phone and said that many people are very angry.

Anyone on this cruise??

Stacy,
Which dates and what are they being offered? Are they trying to make alternate arrangements or just "here's a credit to book another time"? What a bummer

BTW... how's your father doing? Hopes he's well and you're planning another cruise.

There was a cruise the 1st week of June that got chartered and all got bumped off, I have a co-worker who was booked on that cruise. It seems like the Enchantment is popular for charters. It was up to TA's to inform passengers. My friend found out in January but I think some folks might have been much later in getting the news since it was left up to the TAs. Basically RCI gave them a small on board credit and told them to find another cruise or another date. Original pricing was NOT honored, any rebooking was at the going rate. Unfortunately, the cruise contract says they can do anything,a t any time, for any reason so there's not must that a bumped passenger can do.

This happened to us for the November 13, 2004, sailing of the Enchantment. We noticed the sailing was taken off the website almost 2 months before they finally called and said it was chartered. Up until then, whenever we would call and ask, they would just say it was full. They offered two alternative sailing dates at the same price plus a small amount of shipboard credit.

It certainly seems strange that this information was left up to the TA to disseminate. If that was the case, and the TA waited before calling the client, they should be held liable if there is a price difference between when they should have notified them and when they did. It's hard to imagine RCI didn't offer ANY options that honored the booking price. We were still 7 months out
when our cruise was chartered. We weren't offered much, and it certainly did nothing to endear me to RCI, but hopefully we've been able make the shift to a different sailing.

You stated that the contract says they have the right to do this. I've read the contract, and I cannot find anywhere it says that. It does say they can "cancel, advance, postpone or deviate from any scheduled sailing or port of call" but this is not what they are doing. They are still taking this same ship on the same itinerary during the same dates scheduled--they've just said I can't be on board when they do it. Personally, I just think this breach of contract hasn't been properly challenged.

Our local news channel's consumer reporter did a report on this. It involved the Enchantment. A gentleman was planning a 3 couple 40th b-day cruise. A fourth couple wanted to go. He called to add the 4th couple in, was told the cruise was no longer available and he had a choice of other dates! He was not a happy camper (cruiser )! The 4 couples ended up booking on another cruise line for the dates they wanted for the 40th b-day cruise.
Happy cruising!
