Tight connection?

I'm using United frequent flyer miles to book our flight to NYC a couple of days before our cruise. I'm trying to decide between several flights and hope you can help.

One flight has a 55 minute layover in Dulles and lands at LGA and another has 65 minute layover in Dulles and lands at EWR. Those both arrive at about the same time.

A third one I'm looking at has an hour and fifteen minute layover in Chicago and lands about an hour after the other two do. It lands at LGA.

Is a 55 minute layover in Dulles cutting it too close? Is it preferable to land at LGA rather than EWR? If so, why?

LGA is in Queens and Newark is in New Jersey. If you are going to Manhattan it is probably quicker to fly into LGA. Transportation is also cheaper. I don't know about Newark but LGA usually has delays for arriving flights because of heavy traffic. That being said, you are probably ok with the time between flights. It all depends on the weather, volume, etc. 55 minutes should be enough time but you never know.
