you might want to take a scuba class at a local dive shop and get certifide before you go. a class will take at least one full day on the ship and possibly two days. go to the yellow pages and look under dive shops call a PADI instructer and see if you can get lessons before you go. you dont want to waste vacation time taking classes when you can take them before hand. have a great cruise

Thanks! Unfortunately, where we live there isn't anything that even remotely resembles a dive shop - unless you count the place that sells bait down the street!

im sorry i didnt give this on my first reply but you can go on a resort dive on your cruise without being certifide. you dont go deeper than 35 feet but you still get to see really cool stuff plus its a great way to see if you interested in diving before spending the money to get certifide. my wife did a resort dive in cancun and my son did a resort dive when we were on voyager. they both enjoyed them so have a good time

Resort courses are the way to go. You do it once and you are good for up to two weeks at any onther port. But stay with PADI if you do this. have gone deeper then 35 feet on a resort dive before.

I did more than 10 resort dives over the years before I finally got my PADI certification last year. My kids did their PADI too. We were on land for a week and it took about 2 full days (4 dives).

I wouldn't do it on a ship, even if you could it would take a lot of time (and mind set) away from your cruise.

I'd take a cheap holiday to a cheap resort somewhere for a long weekend. You'll be surprised how cheap could be for the right time of year.

As for having a PADI. I've dived 8 times since having the PADI and the fish are the same with or without it Be relaxed, do the "resort" dive *and* enjoy "cruise time". Actually, there is a PADI scuba Pro course that allows you to DIve and take half the course. You can finish the course anytime within 12 months. Do some searching.... Good Luck.

What exactly are "resort dives" and how do I find out where they are offered on our itinerary?

Thanks in Advance!

the dive shop on board ship will let you know when and where it is offered. you might want to check with them on day 1. they might give class on ship in the pool, or they might do them in port. i also think the idea of a resort dive on yopur cruise is the way to go. you can see if your comfertable under water. then go on a vacation to florida, san diego, or some place that does offer certication courses.cancun, st thomas.
