A Rome Transportation Question

On our day in Rome, we (dh and I) will mostly walk and may only use the metro or electric bus once or twice. Does it pay for us to get the BIRG ticket? If not how much does the train cost from Civitavecchia to Rome round trip?

There is another thread regarding BIRG vs one-way tickets that came up recently.

Ā

If you are going from Civitavecchia to Rome, a one-way train ticket on a regional train will cost you 4,50 Euros. A BIRG ticket is 9,00 Euros.

Ā

If you use the bus, tram, metro, etc. while in Rome, the ticket is 1,00 Euro, good for 60 minutes.

Ā

Therefore, anyway you slice it, a BIRG ticket is your way to go.

Hi My Wife and I and our two young kids are thinking about taking the train to see Rome from Civitavecchia. While on the train itailia web site, I see there are also Fast trains that cost a bit more, but can get you to Rome in about 45 mins. Was wondering if anyone has tried these? Also, is this the most realiable way to see Rome outside of a ship tour? Has anyone been caught or heard of anyone caught missing a ship becuase of severly late trains? I know the traffic is bad in Rome, but was thinking that rail would be more reliable?
