Anything to do around Brooklyn Pier?

We are going to have a few hours between when we are scheduled to land at LGA and when we can board our ship. Is there anything fairly close to Brooklin Pier that we can go to like a restaurant or mall?

There are a couple of coffee shops over there within walking distance. The Cruise terminal is very nice and large but theres nothing really near by.

Red Hook is generally off the tourist circuit and has limited facilities. It is probably best characterized as being an urban frontier, with industrial use, some lower cost housing, and some urban pioneers. Apart from some small business establishments along Van Brunt Street, you'll find only two large retail centers. One is the Fairway supermarket, a large market containing a variety of quality groceries. The other is IKEA, a Swedish furniture store that also contains a restaurant. You could pass time at either without question, though it might not be the quality time you're seeking.

One option that you might consider is to head over the IKEA store where there is a free ferry that will take you over to lower Manhattan (Pier 11 off of Wall Street). The ferry schedule probably won't meet your needs on a weekday, but could very well work on a weekend. See the schedule and information here. http://info.ikea-usa.com/Brooklyn/StoreDirections.aspx Once in lower Manhattan you'll have many more things to do, but be careful to allow enough time to get back to the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. It will take about 15 minutes to walk between the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal and IKEA (best bet: drop off your luggage, then sightsee carefree), or you can take a bus (route B61 on Van Brunt Street) or taxi to IKEA.

In the alternative, get the B61 bus heading north on Van Brunt Street (or one of the free buses at IKEA) into downtown Brooklyn, where you'll also have a bit more to do than in Red Hook.
