Gypsy-Bear Posted August 1, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 1, 2009 Flying into LGA from Toronto 10/24/09 arriving at 8:10am for repo cruise on CB Princess. We plan to take taxi/car service to Red Hook pier. We would like to stop along the way to buy wine and soda so we don't have to lug it from home. Is there anywhere at the airport or enroute to the pier that we could buy wine and soda?

Don't buy it at the airport as all the concessions will be overpriced especially for a large quantity of soda and wine. Ask the cab driver to stop at a food store and liquor store (you can't buy wine at supermarkets in New York State) and i am sure he/she will know where to take you. Remember the cab meter will be running during your errand.

Is there anywhere at the airport or enroute to the pier that we could buy wine and soda? There Fairway market at the end of VanBrunt opens at 9 am and sells soda and beer. Very few wine/liquor stores open before 9 anyway. closest to the pier is Heights Chateau wine shop and Towne Liquors. On the way from the airport if the cab goes down Atlantic Avenue you will pass a key food supermarket(at Clinton and Atlantic) and further down on Atlantic on the same side of the Street is Heights Chateau liqours(good selection reasonable price)...It would probably add less than $5.00 to the Cab ride Directions from LGA the BQE to the Tillery Street/Manhattan Bridge exit go straight ahead until Boerum Place/Brooklyn Bridge BLVD/ Adams Street(4-5 lights) make left go straight ahead 6 lights until Atlantic Avenue make a right. Key food will be at the second light on you right. keep going down Atlantic Heights Chateau is in the following block also on the right. After leaving Heights Chateau continue down Atlantic Avenue uner the highway and make a left. At the first corner you can make a right do so(its the third Light) follow that around until Bowne Street and make a right into the terminal.... Gypsy-Bear Posted August 2, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted August 2, 2009 Thank you so much for the info and directions to the stores. I did not know that you couldn't buy wine at the supermarket. By the time we get out of the airport and into the city it should be close to 9:00. The extra cost on the taxi meter is worth not having the hassle of bring wine and soda from home. Your help is much appreciated!
smeyer418 Posted August 2, 2009 #5 Share Posted August 2, 2009 http://www.heightschateau.com/ FYI you are quite welcome! http://maps.yahoo.com/map?q1=169%20Atlantic%20Ave%20Brooklyn%2C%20NY%2011201-5605&mag=5&lat=40.690199&lon=-73.993814&ard=1#mvt=m&lat=40.690199&lon=-73.993814&mag=5&zoom=16&q1=169%2520Atlantic%2520Ave%2520Brooklyn%252C%2520NY%252011201-5605&gid1=11307925 the map shows the exit from the BQE very well... where it says "red hook" on the map is where the cruise terminal entrance is and where it says long island is where the terminal is(Brooklyn and Queens are NY City boros that make up the western end of Long Island)
