Any suggestions on what to do for that short a time and are there lockers for our carryons at the airport?
No lockers, but every terminal has a left luggage facility where you can store your bags for £8 per bag per 24 hours. Locations:-
  • Terminal 1: Arrivals concourse, next to the lifts for Heathrow Express. Open 06:00 - 23:00.
  • Terminal 2: Near the Lufthansa check-in desk. Open 05:30 - 23:00.
  • Terminal 3: Arrivals hall, near car hire desks , open 05.30 - 23:00.
  • Terminal 4: West end of the arrivals hall. Open 05:30 - 23:00.
  • Terminal 5: Arrivals concourse, UK arrivals end. Open 05:30 - 23:00.

If you've got rid of your carry-on bags, your best bet will probably be to just jump on the Tube and go somewhere in central London. I'd suggest something like the Piccadilly Line to Barons Court, changing there to the District Line to Westminster, Embankment or Temple, which are all by the river right in the middle of town.

Assuming that you already have boarding passes for your onward flight, you should make sure that you are back on the Tube at least 2¼ hours before the departure time of your onward flight, to make sure that you have enough time to travel back to Heathrow, collect your carry-on bags, and clear security to get to the gate for your flight.

We will have a 13 hour layover at Heathrow and would like to "get out of the airport". Hopefully we will just have one small carryon each.

We have been to London before and just want to sit back and take in the scenery, no museums and minumum walking. Any suggestions on what to do for that short a time and are there lockers for our carryons at the airport?

Another option is to get the local buses from Terminal 5 and visit Runnymede (Magna Carta), Windsor and Eton. Windsor and Eton is a great place to pass a day pleasantly even if you don't visit Windsor Castle or Eton College and do the well worn tourist trail.
