atb Posted April 14, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 14, 2012 Looking for a great place to have an awesome lobster roll while in Newport. Any recommendations?
PVDColleen Posted April 16, 2012 #2 Share Posted April 16, 2012 You'll have to take a taxi there and back, but Anthony's Seafood is worth the trip. You'll see some other parts of town too. The prices are lower than you'd pay right near the tender dock. http://www.anthonysseafood.net/
macfin Posted April 18, 2012 #3 Share Posted April 18, 2012 there are plenty of resturants with walking distance from the tender dock, if you walk to the street, in front of you is the "barking Crab", take a right and keep walking to Bowens Wharf, there are a few resturants in this shopping complex, be sure to visit "Alex and Ani" jewlery, also take a boat tour from this location, the Wharf resturant has great chowder and sandwiches, if you want to have a bit more expensive snack, go to the Black Pearl, they have a great patio and the "dark and stormies" are just like in Bermuda...from there keep walking down thames to the Red Parrott, and from there you are on our main shopping street....if you have any other questions just ask...as i live here!!! My Dad lives in Newport and a trip th Anthony's is always the 1st stop.
PVDColleen Posted April 18, 2012 #5 Share Posted April 18, 2012 Mouth watering now thinking about a lobster roll, LOL! When I am visiting a new town, I always like to find out where the locals go, which is why I suggested Anthony's. A little out of the way, but worth the trip. Enjoy your time in Newport! What time of year will you be here?

EBM Posted April 26, 2012 #7 Share Posted April 26, 2012 La Forge Casino on Bellevue Ave. near the Tennis Hall of Fame, is really good. So is @ the Deck on lower Thames. The Deck has a great view too. And you can't beat the fried clams at Flo's!
Krazy Kruizers Posted April 27, 2012 #8 Share Posted April 27, 2012 Years ago we did the Mansion's tours and our bus driver stopped at a small shop on the way back to the ship where we got yummy lobster rolls. Sure wish I could remember the name of that place.
macfin Posted April 30, 2012 #9 Share Posted April 30, 2012 go to the west deck sit on the deck and enjoy the view of the harbor...along with the view of your ship, ANTHONY's is GREAT, but a far hike from the ship w/out getting a taxi, maximize your time "down town" , those place around the cruise dock will appreciate the support....here is my PICK of the day for Newport..it is the Breakers Mansion -- Vanderbuilt Family and the playground for Anderson Cooper (mom is Gloria Vanderbuilt) when he was younger. (I work in Boston nearby.) It's pretty much off the radar unless you know about it. It's a concession stand near the aquarium. But by this time you may have already departed Boston! Agreed--the West Desk off Thames. Not sure if they serve Lobster Rolls, but the Mooring is terrific for seafood.
EBM Posted June 9, 2012 #12 Share Posted June 9, 2012 The West Deck is actually called @ The Deck now. As I mentioned in an earlier post, they have great lobster rolls in two varieties - one with mayo and one with butter.
