Holland America - Seattle Departure for Alaska
Mary Ellen1 replied to redleader74's topic in West Coast Departures
Hi. We stayed near the airport, at a hotel that had free airport transportation. I think it was a Hampton Inn, and there were a couple of restaurants nearby for dinner. We used Seattle Express to get us over to the ship in the morning, and also for return transportation to the airport at the end of the cruise. I can't say enough good things about them! Great customer service. We had a group of 8. They were recommended to me by the hotel. We'll definitely use them again. -

FWIW, if you need to rent a car in SD, there are some closer city locations without going all the way to the airport. We got caught up in that Southwest Airlines meltdown last Christmas (all flights canceled!), and rented from Avis about 1/2 mile from the pier. Almost walkable... -
Nah, it's a comment on the Massholes.

Haljo1935 I hope you're eating in the MDR tonight, because people are losing their ever-loving minds in the buffet. People are crashing into each other, trying to get food. And pictures. There's fresh mahi-mahi, sourced at a Kona fish market mere hours ago. And this guy. From Honolulu.

Actually, the mooring line snapped due to the swells. Potentially pretty dangerous for anyone standing nearby, but it all turned out OK. Did you feel the ker-thunk? And hear the bang? (I hope I'm not coming across as if I'm contradicting you! I've enjoyed all your posts, and just wanted to give a little more color around what we heard & felt.)

They were literally holding exercise classes in the atrium though... That was my experience on the Majestic back in September. Loud morning exercise classes down on the lower level, with people joining in from the railings on all the upper levels, and spilling over into the elevator lobbies on several of the decks. Very crowded and irritating if you were just trying to get to an elevator.

Disembarking in Hilo. How much time?

Did not realize that! I think we're going to do this as a walk-up reservation, giving us the flexibility to stay back if the weather, or ground transportation, doesn't favor us. Thanks! -

Thanks Bruce. We're the only ship in port that day, so that helps. -
Disembarking in Hilo. How much time?

Thanks FOPMan. Kind of what we thought. We donβt have priority status (3-star), and would need to order an Uber or Lyft, which could take some time in a potentially crowded, gridlocked port area. Thank you so much. -
Hi there. We're trying to book an excursion in Hilo. We're looking at a 9:10am tour departure (a helo in Hilo!) at the nearby airport (approx a 10-minute Uber ride from the cruise pier), and we arrive at 8am on the Koningsdam. Having never been there, we're wondering if this is manageable, and specifically, how long it typically takes to get off the ship. If we're at the gangway early, it should be pretty straightforward, right? Barring any unforseen problems or huge delays getting off the ship. Later excursions are sold out, until 4pm or so, and that's too late as we've got a 5:30 all-aboard. Thanks, cruisers.
