crzlover Posted March 4, 2005 #1 Share Posted March 4, 2005 Are there any beaches close to the cruise ship dock in Limon? Can you hire a taxi to get there? Is there any place for good snorkeling?
pambam Posted March 4, 2005 #2 Share Posted March 4, 2005  Does this mean you plan to venture on your own in Limon??? I would not recomend it. Limon and Colon are two Ports of call where it is a very wise idea to do a ships tour, even if you never did one in the past. These are two very dangerous areas to venture out on your own and crime is rampant. These are 2 absolutely beautiful countries and well worth seeing, however do it with a tour. You will not feel comfortable on your own anywhere near the city. The figure I heard for tourist crime in Limon is 85%. The tours are awesome and you will enjoy them emensly. We had done a few Rain Forest ventures in both places and it was unforgetable!
crzlover Posted March 4, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted March 4, 2005 We have been to Limon before and did the Jungle boat tour. Not interested in doing it again. Just wanted to lay on a beach. Didn't find Limon to be that bad, but then we like Cartagena, on our own, too.
OCruisers Posted March 12, 2005 #4 Share Posted March 12, 2005 crzlover .... Actually, there is a beach -- PLAYER BONITA! It's a $5.00 pp taxi ride away. There's a small rustic beach bar. In fact the total beach is on the rustic side. On our last port stop in Limon we had planned to do this again BUT after talking with some of the crew (mostly bar tenders and servers) we didn't because they had some sort of problem there. At one time it was a favorite with the crew. (We always trust the opinions of the crew on going to this type of beach. ) It is a option but you might want a "ask around" before going. Hope this helps a bit! Happy Sailing! OCruisers :)
crzlover Posted March 12, 2005 Author #5 Share Posted March 12, 2005 Thanks Ocruisers, I'll check it out when we get on board. Since it is our first port we just wanted to lay around in the sun.
OCruisers Posted September 10, 2005 #6 Share Posted September 10, 2005 Probably, this is what we're going to do on an upcoming cruise .... We've emailed Mambo Tours and they have offered to have a taxi take us to Playa Bonita and STAY with us there for 4 hours for $65 (up to 4 people). We speak comfortable Spanish so that's not the problem. We just want our taxi & driver there in case we would like to leave quickly. E-Mail: mambotur@hotmail.com TelFax: 506-798-1542 Happy Sailing! JMP1973 Posted November 11, 2005 #7 Share Posted November 11, 2005 Hey there! We just got back from our cruise (Legend Nov 1st). Our second port of call was Limon. When we got off the ship we went to one of the local security people and asked if he could recommend a beach.......he did Playa Bonita and he took us over to one of the tour companies and hired us a cab that dropped us off and picked us up at a set time. It was absolutely beautiful and peaceful. We had lunch at the bar on the beach, ( I can't remember the name of it...there were 2 it was the blue one) so with lunch and 2 beers it cost us $10.00 US. Not too shabby and it was one of our best port of calls. We would definately do this again.Jackie and Chris

While it's not a great beach, at least it's a beach! ;)
