traveling1969 Posted April 12, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2007 We're sailing to the Mexican Riviera on the Dawn Princess and want to pick up some Pesos. Where is a good place to change money? We're arriving around 4 pm on Saturday and wonder if there is someplace open then or will we have to wait till Monday? Any help would be greatly appreciated. skandls Posted April 13, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 13, 2007 We have been to the Mexican Riviera several times. Don't usually get pesos. Most of the people in the ports take dollars. Also check with Princess if you really need Pesos you might be able to get some on board at the pursars.
sultan_sfo Posted April 13, 2007 #3 Share Posted April 13, 2007 Stores and restaurants in Mexican Ports give a better rate than you will get in US. If you are doing independent sightseeing, it is best to negotiate with cabs in US $. But take a variety of US currency notes -- dont expect them to give much change back! /Sultan
dosi Posted April 15, 2007 #4 Share Posted April 15, 2007 To expand on sultan's advice....bring ALOT of singles....the more the better. I have yet to meet a cab driver in Mexico who ever claimed to have any change, be it in pesos or dollars. Don't mess with the exchange thing, you will just end up with a bunch of pesos when you get home!!
daveco58 Posted April 21, 2007 #5 Share Posted April 21, 2007 Dollars are what keep the Mexican economy humming. You will always get a better deal paying in dollars. If you want to buy some pesos as a souvenir - buy them in Mexico, you will see signs all over for "Cambios" (Exchange).
DesrtDrmr Posted April 25, 2007 #6 Share Posted April 25, 2007 We just returned from the Dawn to Mexico, and used dollars everywhere. Prices on most items were marked in dollars. Have fun!
