Hei1980 Posted November 2, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 2, 2013 Will my DH have problems using his scooter in New Orleans? I picked the Hilton Riverwalk Hotel in hopes he could ride along the river and watch the boats. Have never been to this city but would like to "live and learn". ducklite Posted November 2, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 2, 2013 (edited) Overall the city is accessible with reasonably smooth sidewalks and curb cuts. There might be a few places where you might need to go an extra block or so and a few buildings with steps and no ramp but overall in the tourist areas (French Quarter, Convention Center area, Garden District, Central Business District) are accessible. Enjoy your time there, it's perhaps the most unique city in the entire US with an atmosphere that is energized, laid back, and a bit eerie all at once. There's a restaurant called Grande Isle a block or two from there, great food. Get the chicken, best I've ever had. I couldn't finish and my friend finished my plate and agreed. Reasonable prices and casual atmosphere. Autocorrect responsible for most typos... Edited November 2, 2013 by ducklite
Hei1980 Posted November 3, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted November 3, 2013 Thanks so much, it is so hard to go to a new city and end up only in a hotel room.....again thank you.
ducklite Posted November 3, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 3, 2013 Also I don't know if you gamble, but there is a casino about a block from your hotel that is fully accessible. There's a 24 hour Starbucks inside, and never a line in the morning. It's a great place to grab coffee and breakfast without spending a fortune or waiting in Cafe DuMondes long lines. nieciez Posted November 3, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 3, 2013 (edited) My friends and I had no problem at all in NO this past February. The only challenge was on Bourbon St and that was due to so many people, not the conditions of the sidewalks. PennyAgain Posted November 6, 2013 #7 Share Posted November 6, 2013 I know the New Orleans Hilton Riverwalk hotel well. There are lots of buildings and some have a better view of the river and boats than others. I would telephone the hotel and ask a great many questions. I had a room with fantastic river views and enjoyed that very much.
