BAKERA Posted June 14, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 14, 2004 How far is the airport to the pier? Is it better for a party of 3 to hire a taxi rather than purchase the $25 each one way Norwegian transfer?
Bill S Posted June 14, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 14, 2004 bakera-yes, it is better to hire a taxi or limo, IMO. We have been to Vancouver 3 times for cruises. It is quite a ways from the airport to the ship. The last two times, we have used a limo for 4 people-$45 for the entire group. You do not need a reservation, as you exit customs, and as you head into the main terminal for transportation, you will see a sign for limos. Easy to use and a great way to get to your hotel/pier. jstducky Posted June 14, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 14, 2004 BAKERA - depending on if your ship departs out of Canada Place pier or Ballentyne pier the total travel time from Vancouver International Airport is about 25-30 minutes. Canada Place is a bit closer than Ballentyne. Last July when I went I grabbed a cab (there are tons waiting after you walk out of baggage claim). The total cost for my party of 3 was $30 for the fare and tip. One suggestion, pay with your credit card rather than exchanging money, you get a better exchange rate that way. Enjoy! jstducky! ----------------- ...til 9/04 - Jewel of the Seas - Canada / New England ==================================== ...til 7/04 - Zuiderdam - Western Caribbean ===================================== 7/03 - Zaandam - Alaska 4/03 - Norweigan Star - Hawaii 7/96 - Noordam - Alaska 7/96 - Golden Princess - Alaska 8/94 - Jubilee - Mexican Riviera <center> <a href="http://www.escati.com/counter98/free_time_codes.htm"> </center>
momofmeg Posted June 15, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 15, 2004 I have been to Canada twice and used American dollars you always get a better exchange rate. It depends on how strong our dollar is and how strong the Canada dollar is. Back in 92 their dollar was like 85 cents in our money. When I was there in 2001 their dollar was 70 cents to our dollar. Anyway they are supposed to give you whatever the difference is in their money and ours. They did at all the places I went to-so if the cab driver tries to pull a fast one you should make a complaint. You should not feel you have to use a credit card to get a better rate.
