Seaweed?!?!?! No swimming from shore?

Hello,

Anyone who recently went to Belize can tell me if swimming in the ocean was a no go due to seaweed?

To go to a beach in Belize you need to take a boat to one of their barrier islands to swim or snorkel. :)

Taking an excursion to the Barrier Reef (2nd largest in the world) is a wonderful thing to do! :)

I live on ambergris Caye in Belize. I also just returned from a Caribbean cruise.

Belize like all of the Caribbean has had a influx of seaweed "Sargassum". On the Resort beaches This is cleaned up continually.

As far as the "live" seaweed growing it is present in most shallow areas.

A few nice sand beaches on Ambergris Caye. The Split at Caye Caulker does not have a beach. It has a deep channel for swimming so no seaweed.
