We went to Anan bear observatory on August 18, 2015. We flew out of Ketchikan with Family Air. Other passengers had floatplane tours the same day that were cancelled due to weather. We had an early flight (8:15 am) and it was a go! The floatplane experience is so fun. It was about a 35 minute flight. We landed in an isolated bay. There were eagles everywhere. There was a black bear on the beach. As we putted closer to the shore, the bear disappeared into the woods. We got out of the plane and were greeted by a forest ranger who gave us the safety instructions on the event we would meet up with a bear on the trail. The rainforest was GORGEOUS!! little drizzly rain. When we arrived at the observatory we were greeted again by another ranger. He quickly pointed out the grizzly brown bear that was feasting on salmon. There was a black bear hidden under the rocks. We saw two more black bears on our way back. Expensive trip but it was the highlight of our trip! The stillness and beauty of the rainforest was a spiritual experience!
