Beaches near Taormina-Giardini train station?

It's an easy trip from Messina by rail, however, beware on the way back, some of the trains from Catania are sleepers to Rome etc., and although they stop at Messina to be loaded aboard the ferry to the mainland, you are not supposed to travel on them. Check at the ticket office.

There is the pebble beach at Isola Bella at the foot of the cable car:

There are regular buses that go there from the station and also up to Taormina, and in the other direction to the sandy beaches at Giardini Naxos:

There is a taxi rank outside the station, but beware of rip-offs!

It's not too far from the station to the beginning of Giardini Naxos beach, we were there a couple of years ago and it was lovely but about a month ago the sea was full of rubbish - plastic bags, bottles, rope, just about everything you could think of was floating around, so I gave up on the idea of swimming. Hopefully once the summer season is properly underway they will clean it up. The beach itself is sandy and there are plenty of cafes renting sunbeds.

Need a down day on a port intensive itinerary. What is the best way to get from Catania Port to Giardina Naxos beach. We are going to be on Celebrity Constellation in Sept. Thanks.

The closest beaches in the area are a mile and a half from the Taormina train station along a road that is decidedly not pedestrian friendly. This beach area (in downtown Giardini Naxos, near its port) is about the same distance (1.4 miles) from the Alcantara station and the roads are more pedestrian friendly. Unfortunately, only a few trains stop at the Alcantara station so the timing may not work for you.

To head toward Taormina beaches is just under two miles but entirely along the SS114 which is dangerous for pedestrians. Just take a look at it on street view of google maps.

Rather than waste time getting to the Giardini Naxos beach, which really isn't worth the trek, in my opinion, it might be easier to check out the playa beaches south of Catania: https://www.visitsicily.travel/en/nature/beaches-in-sicily/the-beaches-of-catania/the-beaches-in-catania/#tab-id-1
