Sherbertscamper Posted October 5, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 5, 2016 Does anybody know how far the Donkey Sanctuary is from the port? How much is the cab ride there? We would love to see this place! Thanks in advance!
JimandStan Posted October 6, 2016 #2 Share Posted October 6, 2016 Does anybody know how far the Donkey Sanctuary is from the port? How much is the cab ride there? We would love to see this place! Thanks in advance! If you're a true animal lover, the Donkey Sanctuary can be depressing as it resembles a hot, dusty farm. I'm sure that the animals there are healthy but, outside of the feeding pen, they sure don't look happy about being there. It's only about a twenty minute car ride, but because of its' isolated location, a Taxi will probably ask $25 to get there from the port.
WatchHill Posted October 20, 2016 #3 Share Posted October 20, 2016 We were on Aruba last week and attempted to visit the Donkey Sanctuary. Since it's a good distance from the port and NOT a place to find a return taxi, you will need to request your driver to wait until your visit is over. We were told the round trip would be about $60. When we arrived at the Sanctuary was still closed, so our taxi driver took us to a national park nearby, hoping the Donkey Sanctuary would be open when we returned. Sadly, it was closed even though the posted time indicated it should be open. We looked at the donkeys through the locked gate, a few of the animals came closer. The smell wasn't very nice. Our driver attempted to call the site, no answer. He called his dispatcher for an alternate phone number, no contact. We waited a few minutes, then decided to return to the port. Looking at the sanctuary, I would not bother to return if on Aruba in the future. Darcy
Rare Hlitner Posted October 20, 2016 #4 Share Posted October 20, 2016 If you really want to go to that place...consider just renting a car (at the port) and then you can drive to the Donkey Sanctuary and also use the car to enjoy other parts of the island. The car will almost pay for itself...if you planned on a taxi to that Donkey place. We do agree with the other poster, that its not a particularly uplifting place for animal lovers. Personally, we rather go all the way out to Arashi......swim/snorkel out to the reef, and view wild sea creatures in their domain. Hank
Sherbertscamper Posted October 21, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted October 21, 2016 Thank you so much for the recent info! We will probably skip the Sanctuary on this trip. Hate to waste time!
