Gem - NY to Caribbean, December

As weather conditions can vary wildly, it's difficult to answer precisely. That being said, we've sailed out of NYC twice in February and once in March and all three times people were in the pool by lunchtime on the first full sea day. Barring an unusual weather front, you should experience nice warm and humid air as soon as you pass Cape Hatteras, NC - which usually occurs around 10 or 11 am.

Happy sailing.

That's been our experience in January as well. One very cold January it really didn't warm up until the evening of the first sea day. But the other two cruises we were in shorts that first morning.

Hi,

We sailed on the Jewel the first week of December last year.

I agree that it totally depends on the weather fronts. Even in Florida it was not "warm"-- nicer than Massachusetts but not that "cruise warm". The wind was bad and we could not even use the balcony on sea days bcause of the wind and cold.

If you are doing the Florida, Bahama sailing plan on tanning at the GSC and Nassau and plan activites for sea days. The great thing about cruising -- there is plenty to do inside and out and you you can change your mind.

If you consider day 1 to be the day you depart from New York then on our cruise last year on day 1 there were people using the hot tubs and on day 2 there were people using the pools. That was December 22nd and 23rd. By day 3 you are east of the Bahamas and enjoying summer like weather.

The route taken is normally way east of the East Coast to get into hopefully warmer and calmer water as quickly as possible and it is the straightest route to the Caribbean.
