pmfan Posted March 23, 2005 #1 Share Posted March 23, 2005 Is disabled parking the same price as regular parking? I know that at the Miami Port, for those with disability id, the parking is free. Can anyone tell me about Port Canaveral? Thank you.
Shebbieal Posted March 23, 2005 #2 Share Posted March 23, 2005 Yes, you do pay the same as non-disabled at Port Canaveral (10$ - 12$ a day). Miami and Ft Lauderdale are free with placards. Sherry
DEL67 Posted March 23, 2005 #3 Share Posted March 23, 2005 I know parking in Miami is free for the diasbled. But Shebbieal are you sure about Ft Lauderdale? We leave from there next month so it would be nice to know.
Shebbieal Posted March 23, 2005 #4 Share Posted March 23, 2005 I am 99.99% sure at Port Everglades. Unless a recent change. Sherry
Ken Posted March 23, 2005 #5 Share Posted March 23, 2005 The parking is free for all vehicles modified for the handicapped. The policy is clearly stated on the Port Canaveral website: http://www.portcanaveral.org. We have a van with a lift and we were parked for free. Nice benefit. Shebbieal Posted March 24, 2005 #6 Share Posted March 24, 2005 Ken, Thanks, I too have a van with a lift. I had heard parking wasn't free for handicapped, but I looked at the site you mentioned and it clearly spelled it out for me. Sherry
Benita Posted March 24, 2005 #7 Share Posted March 24, 2005 Garage at Port Everglades (Ft. Lauderdale) charges regular parking rates with a handicapped placard - I don't know about specially outfitted vans. By the way, the garage had tons of empty parking spots, but every single handicapped parking spot was taken.
muskrat897 Posted March 24, 2005 #8 Share Posted March 24, 2005 Parking is also free at Port of Miami if you have a handicapped modifications (as per Florida law)
DEL67 Posted March 24, 2005 #9 Share Posted March 24, 2005 Parking is free at the Port of Miami as long as you have a handicap id from any state. You do not need a modified vehicle.
ElCruiso Posted May 6, 2005 #10 Share Posted May 6, 2005 Unless they recently changed Canaveral had no problem charging me $12 a day to park even with the Handicapped Placard. Miami has always been free. Tampa Charges also was $10 a day believe it went up to $12.   Port Everglades Charged also I sail all 4, my wife is totally disabled and I have the Placard. Unless changed Miami only Fla. Port with free Handicaqpped Parking.:p
Ken Posted May 6, 2005 #11 Share Posted May 6, 2005 As stated earlier in this thread, the vehicle will be allowed to park for free only if it has been modified to accomodate the handicapped (e.g. lift, hand controls, etc.) I parked for free in January, but the attendant did peek inside the van. muskrat897 Posted May 7, 2005 #12 Share Posted May 7, 2005 There are special areas designed for parking for the disabled, however we do not provide free parking unless it is (1) a vehicle with specialized equipment, such as ramps, lifts, or foot or hand controls, for use by a person who has a disability, or (2) a vehicle that is displaying the Florida Toll Exemption permit (call 1-800-983-2435 #2 for an exemption form). Sarahsmom85 Posted June 2, 2005 #13 Share Posted June 2, 2005 Wow see I found this site too late. Back in 2003 we payed $80+ to park at Ft. Lauderdale. I have a special van with HP plates. No one said anything to us about free parking.
canuk05 Posted June 3, 2005 #14 Share Posted June 3, 2005 Parking at FL is free. We cruised with Princess in Feb 2005. Our van has a lift and when we came to the port we stopped at the entrance and the attendant looked into the van. After she made a call she came out took our paccard #, my licence # and our plate #. We were escortted to a parking spot, which happened not to be a handicap spot, and were never charged.
