4Tacos Posted January 17, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 17, 2015 We are sailing on the Sunshine in February. We've been on two Carnival cruises prior to this upcoming one. DH and I have never been to a casino (land or curise) and we are thinking about checking it out on this cruise. If we decide to go, we will be giving ourselves a budget for each evening and just want to go for entertainment purposes. We literally know NOTHING about casinos. Can you give me any advice? Slots, tables, what do we do? How do things work? Thanks in advance.

You may experience beginner's luck! Sue
Dicenator Posted January 18, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 18, 2015 The only issue you will have with slot machines on Carnival is setting up your account with your room card key. You should do this the first time you put money into a machine. Any employee or any previous passenger can help you do this. You can do this right on the slot machine. For most of the table games they will have classes right in the casino usually on the first day to show you how to play. All of the games will have a $5 or $6 (blackjack and fun 21) minimum bet. I would play fun 21 rather than blackjack. Blackjack uses continuous shuffle machines whereas fun 21 is hand shuffled. The lowest house advantage games you can play are blackjack using basic strategy (find on internet) which will be around .6% and craps with a passline with odds being under 1%. I would suggest that you make an attempt to play every game, maybe you'll get lucky. Dicenator
Tutontow Posted January 18, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 18, 2015 I strongly urge you to learn basic strategy for blackjack. You can go to the Wizard of Odds and learn just about any game out there. You can also print basic strategy charts at the Wizard of Odds. Make sure you check out the two links below http://wizardofodds.com/games/blackjack/appendix/21/ http://wizardofodds.com/play/blackjack/ You can also learn craps. At first will be intimidating so just make a bet on the pass line. Many people don't like table games because it looks like you have to make a larger minimum bet but believe me your money will last longer on Craps making pass line bets that playing a 25 cent slot machine. Casinos are a lot of fun and I have been an active gambler for over 25 years my best advice is unless you could throw the money overboard and not miss it don't take it to the casino.
