Eurostar-then to Harwich

Recommended Posts

I have just purchased Eurostar passes from Paris to London for June 26th.My train leaves at 1 in the afternoon.

I need to then get a train to Manningtree (on the way to Harwich).

I know I will arrive at St. Pancras about 2 hours and 20 minutes after departure. I ´d like to know what is this best way to get to the other train station and how much time do i need to allow myself (I´d like to purchase the other tickets ahead of time too).

I will be with my husband and 3 small kids. We will have 5 large suitcases.

What time can we expect to arrive in Manningtree?

Thanks.

Kim

Boa Noite!

Here is your schedule for the train from London Liverpool Street to your destination:

http://www.nationalexpresseastanglia.com/

The only problem:

you arrive in St. Pancras

http://www.stpancras.com/UploadDocs/Contents/Documents/Tube%20map.pdf

You can go four stops by subway to Liverpool Street but with all your baggage and children it would be a challenge so that you better should use a taxi to bridge the distance.

It's 130 km = 1.30 hrs from St. Pancras by car to Manningtree.

If your train stops in Ebbsfleet International and you would to make arrangements from there:

It's 110 km = 1.15 hrs from Ebbsfleet International by car to Manningtree.

Without knowing your further plans: Car Rental is avaialble at Ebbsfleet.

I haven´t even considered renting a car. Wouldn´t that be more complicated?

Is Ebbsfleet a stop before St.Pancras? Could we get off there?

If we do arrive at St.Pancras , we could get a cab to Liverpool Street....how much would that be and do the have cabs for 5 people and 5 suitcases?

I am trying to decide if it will be cheaper and easier to get a shuttle from St.Pancras to Harwich (Manningtree).

Thanks again Heinblod...

Tchau e boa noite tambem.

Bom dia,

according to the new schedule the 13.01 hrs from Paris has a stop in Ebbsfleet:

http://www.eurostar.com/pdf/reaccomodation/3699%20UK%20DL.pdf

Try them:

According to their website they have 6-8 seater and are close to Ebbsfleet:

http://www.airporttransfersdartford.com/

And maybe this is also helpful for you:

http://www.london-airport-shuttle.co.uk/car_and_driver.html

http://www.adlg.co.uk/tariff.htm#harwich

http://www.chauffeursofengland.co.uk/Airports%20and%20Seaports/taxi-from-harwich-port.htm

Harwich (close by) has the infrastructure for cruisers...

I am sure they will also quote for your route.

They are based in London and you can also request for the transfer from one station to the other:

http://www.london-minibus.co.uk/

http://www.taxilondoncab.com/index.htm

http://www.clockhousecars.co.uk/London_Taxi_Cab_Services.htm

http://www.london-taxi.co.uk/taxi/bookings.htm

St. Pancras - Liverpool Street is about 3 miles.

Taxi will be around 10 GBP.

A classical London Taxi will accomodate 5 persons... but 5 persons on world cruise with all the baggage???

A full flexible single ticket for Manningtree is 25.70 GBP (for adults) - a restricted advance sale ticket is from 6 GBP available.

No idea how old your kids are.

So just for your calculation: if you might accept the inconvenience to have two standard taxis: 20 GBP + 5 advanced booked tickets for 30 GBP as extreme cheap version or a little more comfort.

Back to the rental car:

I would do it because I have no problem to drive on the other side:

It's cheap - it's flexible - and you get the stuff where you need to go.

Ebbfleet has Avis... but then you have to return in Ipswich which is 13 miles away from Manningtree.

So thanks for giving me the occassion to check all this point before I book a cruise from/to Harwich...

HeinBloed

Heinblod-

You are amazing!

Do the rental cars in England have GPS?

I am a little wary of driving on the other side!

Where can I purchase these advance tickets for 6 pounds? The site you gave me in other e-mail won´t let me buy tickets for June yet. Neither would the Eurostar official site -I bought my tickets through Travelocity.

My kids are 5 , 9 and 12.

Obrigada!

You just book one GPS with your booking. If it has no integrated you get an external.

Driving on the other side...

Very simple...

Once you made it on the left lane to the first roundabout/rotary and made it in and make 10 turns arounds without damages, then you are qualified to go on the motorways...

It was of course a strange feeling but I made it so far without any damages...

If you want to make it a little easier just book a car with automatic - so one thing less to think about... how to get with the left hand where but the left feet stay...

In most European countries you can make the bookings 2-3 monthes (depends to the country) before date of travel.

So it would be interesting if you get full flexible tickets or discounted as they are not on sale so far... (would be 77 EUR pp from Paris to London).

Actually , I was able to book the Eurostar tickets already , just not on the eurostar official site. I got them on Travelocity.

I paid $331 for the whole family (all 5 of us)-advance purchase price.

I´d like to purchase the National Rail tickets but haven´t been able to find any on sale yet.I think the train will be our cheapest option.

I looked at the rental car and a bigger car for 5 people and 5 suitcases will cost around 140 pounds.(The Zafira)

So , looks like the train.

Thanks !

You'd probably need two cabs. St Pancras to Liverpool Street will be about £10-15 per cab; it should take about 20 minutes.
I´d like to purchase the National Rail tickets but haven´t been able to find any on sale yet.
Rail tickets go on sale three months before travel.

You are lucky... and "steal" from the "Europeans" already the good bargains...

We in Europe can buy 3 monthes in advances...

Due to country of residence I am not allowed to book so far via travelocity.

Will you adopt me??? You have already three: two more or less... should not be a problem. We are already older than yours: do not worry... no need to feed or change diapers... easy to handle... most time not avaiable but on cruise...

Ha!

I have the same problem too...but I had my tickets sent to my aunt´s address in the USA , then she will send them to me.

I miss out on so many good air deals because I live in Brazil.

My children and I have dual citizenship (American and Brazilian) , so that is helpful.

Most time on a cruise sounds good...you could adopt us too!

I just got a quote from St. Pancras to Manningtree....an absurd 300 pounds!!!

We had a private personal driver all day in 3 different places in Europe (from 9 in the morning til 5 in the afternoon)on our Med cruise for 500 Euros .

Our private tour for 2 whole days in St.Petersburg (with admissions and a hydrofoil ride and a private van with A/C will be $900 .

It is an hour and 20 minute drive to Manningtree and it will just be driving , not "guiding".

Seems absurd to me.

Well - did he talk about Pound Sterling??? As you are from Brasil you may pay with your local currency: 300 pounds of best coffee beans...

But if you offering to adopt him too and garantee him a weekly Churasco-style-steak... maybe he will give you discount...

London is one of the most expensive cities in the world.

That's why I added some Harwich based companies too. One has reference prices for Harwich - London City. So this amount should not be exceed.

Seems absurd to me.

Who knows... may be he sings during the ride to Manningtree like a Gaucho or is a undiscovered future Pulitzer Prize nominee and will tell you the story of his life... instead of guiding you...

You still have the options to go by train...

but you can do me favour... you can tell who it was... so I must not ask anymore for my Harwich plans...

Have a nice Sunday!!!

Obrigado e adeus.

Well, I just got a much more reasonable estimate! The 300 British Pounds estimate is fom the "Chauffers of England"...maybe they were planning to pick me up in a Bentley , with the cast of "Billy Elliot" to put on a show.

Smiths for Airports gave a much more reasonable price of 160 British Pounds.

I am thinking about this.

However I found a very interesting website http://www.2for1entry.co.uk and I have researched the possibilty of leaving from the Liverpool Street Station to Colchester County (Manningtree seems to be a stop) as a group. It apparently averages around 10 GBP a person ,which seems great!

However I can´t know for sure because of this date (16 weeks)problem.

So , will be waiting.

I had a great churrasco last week! The best cut of meat is the "picanha". Yum , yum.

Bom domingo.

Lucky girl,

I waited until midnight until the sales started for the day of travel I need.

While you were lucky that you get via travelocity your discounted tickets more than 16 weeks ahead:

with my day of travel NO DISCOUNTED tickets were available - which should have been 66 EUR pp.

Wish I had the same option like you to prebook earlier than 16 weeks before day of travel.

2 one-way tickets Paris - Ashford (for Dover) are 463.50 EUR (2nd class)

2 one-way tickets Frankfurt - Heathrow are 163.00 EUR

One hotel night and one car rental is less than 300 EUR...

So if you are entitled to buy and have a chance: book with http://www.travelocity.com

HeinBloed
