Machu pichu

Just a few pointers that came up in the other thread on Machu Picchu/Sacred Valley:

1) High altitude sickness: If push comes to shove, they have an excellent clinic in Cusco and I saw their sign also in the Sacred Valley. The local representative of Escaped to South America called the doctor who came to the hotel. The doctor spoke English.

2) Food and drink: If you are taking high blood pressure medication like I am, drink the local mint tea, not the coca tea. Do not drink tap water. The local quinoa chicken soup is excellent and better than a heavy meal. Generally speaking, Peruvian cuisine is tasty. The local Cusco beer is also very good.

3) Hygiene: Although many South and Central American toilets are not equipped to handle paper (paper bucket provided), all our hotel toilets were modern, even in the 3 * hotel. No problem there and no special paper buckets.

4) Luggage: The train to Machu Picchu has no space for suitcases. Use a back/daypack and leave your suitcase in the hotel to which you will return.
