Civitavecchia to Rome Airport, Messina, Naple DIY

What is an economical way to get from Civitavecchia to the Rome airport, have a 3pm flight so plenty of time to get from the pier when we get off in the morning to get to the airport. There are 2 of us, with one medium size piece of luggage and 1 carry on. Do you need to take a taxi from the pier to the train station to go into Rome, then take another train or airport bus from Rome to the airport? Is there some sort of direct public transport that will get you from the pier to the airport. If we hire a taxi or private car, what is a reasonable amount to pay for 2 people. Can anyone please suggest a car company?

Also need DIY info for excursion from Naple and Messina. Have done Pompeii and the other ruin site, and the Almalfi coast before so no need to repeat. Is there anything to see in Naples itself? Can you walk from the pier into town. Last time we did a bit of walking, maybe just a few blocks into town after our excursion, and didn't find too much to see but we only had an hour left at that time.

Last time we were in Messina there were 4 of us so we pre-booked a private company that took us to Taromina and it was delightful. This time there are only 2 of us so would not be economical to hire a car for 2. If we want to go back to Taromina, is it possible DIY, and are there other charming little towns that we can take a train or bus to ourselves?

Thanks in advance.

I took the free cruise shuttle bus to temp drop off point in August, then caught the city bus to train station which cost about .80, then you can take regional train to termini. I took bus from termini train station to airport which cost 6 euro I believe, it is cheaper to take train.

If you're taking the regional train from Civitavecchia to the airport it's well out of your way to go all the way to Termini. The most direct routing is Civitavecchia to Roma Trastevere, and then Trastevere to the airport.

There is no direct train from Civitavecchia to the airport.

For perspective:

Regional train w/change at Trastevere: 1 hour, 20 minutes, 11 Euro

Express train to Termini, followed by Leonardo Express train to the airport: 1 hour, 34 minutes, 24 Euro

Regional train to Termini, followed by Leonardo Express train to the airport: 2 hours, 10 minutes, 19 Euro
