Seaweed situation at Blue Kay?

Read awhile ago that there was a tremendous amount of sagasso (sp??) seaweed...

Does anyone know if the situation has improved recently?

Presence of sea grass along the malecon is dictated by currents. While may beach clubs rake the beaches after the tides roll out, it's hard to predict what the water inside the breakwater will look like. It's just the nature of the oceanography in the area.

Sorry have not been to Costa Maya recently but I'm sure others who have can give their feedback. We've visited the Riviera Maya area to the north several times this year (building a home) and we're returning in a few weeks and so we've been paying close attention to the sargasso situation all along the Caribbean coast all of this year. This is the worst we've seen in all our years of traveling, nothing in memory comes remotely close to being this pervasive and consistent. Unfortunately it's been a huge presence all along the RM and down into Tulum, not sure about Mahahual.

But we've been reading that there have been good days with little to none in many of the beach areas so that's much more promising than what we were seeing earlier in the year and hopefully that bodes well for your visit to Costa Maya - Good luck! :)
