Best Time to Drive From London to Dover

My husband and I have hired a car to take us from London to Dover on a Saturday in August. We'd like to take in as much of London as possible that Saturday.

What would be the best time to leave London to avoid the heaviest traffic?

Around 9am to 2pm is the worst time to be leaving central London on a summer Saturday.

After that should be fine.

Saturday 23rd August is during a long holiday weekend - factories & offices closed on the Monday. But shouldn't make any difference if you make that late start on the Saturday.

For sight-seeing in central London a car is a hindrance, even on a Saturday.

If your hotel doesn't have parking, best collect the car when you're ready to leave the big bad city.

depends where you are staying/picking up the car which will be the best way out to the motorway.
