Miryam1234 Posted September 26, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 26, 2014 Well, I posted this question to my Roll call, receiving no answers. So maybe this is better place to ask: As we will be in le Havre on Nov 1st, which is All Saints Day - at least in Finland that is a public holiday when everything (shops, museums etc) is closed. Does anybody have any idea how that affects France? Thanks! Miryam
Rare Hlitner Posted September 26, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 26, 2014 It has a major impact in France with some shops closing for the day. It is an official Bank Holiday. As to Museums, you need to check on the posted schedule of each museum you might visit. The will have closings referenced on their own web sites. Another big problem is for those of us who often rent cars. The French rental car offices look for any excuse to close....and All Saints Day is a good excuse :) Hank
LondonTowner Posted September 26, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 26, 2014 Yes, it is a public holiday and shops, banks, museums etc are closed. However, if you are thinking of visiting the DDay sites I would check it out.
Miryam1234 Posted September 27, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted September 27, 2014 Thanks for the reply. I may have to change my plans. I was not thinking about doing any ship excursion but that mau well be the best option on a Bank Holiday. LondonTowner Posted September 27, 2014 #5 Share Posted September 27, 2014 it won't make any difference doing a ship excursion, the places will still be closed.
Rare Hlitner Posted September 27, 2014 #6 Share Posted September 27, 2014 it won't make any difference doing a ship excursion, the places will still be closed. And cruise lines (and their shore contractors) have been known to be less then honest about such situations. So you book an excursion that lists a certain itinerary and the cruise line happily takes your money. Then once you start the excursion the tour guide explains that there are some "minor" itinerary changes because of a holiday. So it is best to do your own checking on closures.
