Dive Shop on the Freedom

Recommended Posts

We need to get new masks and snorkels, of good quality and value (we got our last ones at a dive shop, but there aren't any near us any more and that was 15 years ago). Is the dive shop on the Freedom a good place to get them, or can someone recommend a shop early in the Western itinerary?

RJ is NOT a good source for dive gear

if you are coming early and have the time

there is a Divers Direct in Orlando ... large and OK prices ... located near Universal

http://www.diversdirect.com/scuba-dive/orlando-dive-shops/

or my preferred shop is Hatts in Melbourne

http://hattsdiveshop.com/

family run for a LONG time ... I've gotten GREAT deals on quality gear from them several times over. Just recently when picking up a SeaLife camera for dd I mentioned to them I'd found a better price on line ... they looked it up, and then beat the price ....

The dive shop on board had a limited selection, and I have to imagine the prices are inflated.

I ordered a mask and snorkel from Leisure Pro a couple of years ago, they have great prices, free shipping, and a good return policy. Seems like they shipped fast, too.

If you happen to be driving, I can recommend a shop in Jacksonville. Otherwise the places Capt BJ mentioned sound promising. I would also not recommend Ron Jon's. They're great for some stuff, but you're going to find cheap sets there, not quality gear. Fine for a dip in the pool but that's about it.

I didn't need nor want an expensive set, and the ones I found at Walmart for $19.99 was $49.99 at the dive shop.

I wouldn't bother trying to get something there.

We were down for one night, and never had been in the area before but had a rental and found things to be VERY easy to navigate down in Port Canaveral as well as Merritt Island. Locals were awesome with directions and help... I say as the above posters and go local! You won't regret it
