Best Scallops?

Hey gang,

I'm a lobster/lobster roll fan...but I'm even more of a scallop fan.

So, where would you recommend for scallops (any way but fried) in Boston, Portland and Bar Harbor? Any favorite places?

The scallop cocktail at J's is fabulous - according to my husband who orders it often (we are locals). The scallops are huge, fresh and raw - the only way to eat them according to him!

I like my scallops cooked...grilled or sauteed but not fried. (Or raw) :o

The New England fishery is not known for its scallops, so any scallops you find will probably be shipped in from some other area. Lobster and clams on the other hand are all caught locally.

Disregard my previous post, apparently there is a significant scallop fishery in the area. But, lobsters and clams are really famous for New England, and are much more commonly found on restaurant menus.

As a local, I never hear anyone say "man, those were great scallops". With that being said, each city has some great seafood, so I'm sure the scallops will be good.

I figured they'd probably be Digby Bay scallops...which I intend to eat my share of up in Canada. :p

But don't worry! I have lobster on the menu as well! :)

Lived on the Cape for a year with friends who were scallop fishermen. SO many scallops that the pet dogs and cats ate them too.
