We sailed yesterday from Nassau and have a sea day today before arrival tomorrow morning in Havana, a maiden call for this and indeed any SS ship, there is a great sense of anticipation on board for the passengers and crew, we are all really looking forward to our eight days around Cuba.

72 passengers and 127 crew on board, calm sea, great service and a 'burger free menu' here has made for a very happy start.

The ship sailed empty of passengers from St Johns to Nassau but contractors were on board and a lot of plush new carpet has been laid.

More later as we progress

Have a great cruise. We want details...details...details!

Fletcher: Looking forward to reading your future despatches from the front - - but your first begs the question' date=' if this is Silversea's first visit to Cuba why is the ship only half full? [/quote']

Perfectionistcruiser: It is only half full as originally chartered to an Australian operator' date=' who failed to fill it, then later released to some UK Agents, as it could not be offered at the time to the US market, so there are no Americans on board, big slice of SS clients not here, or able to be here. [/quote']

Yes, would love to hear more details and specifics. My guess is that there are still some "technical" things to be done for USA citizens to be visiting Cuba and using U.S. credit card there, etc. Great, helpful added background from Perfectionistcruiser in London.

What is the full schedule for this ship in and around Cuba?? In Havana, hopefully folks will be to enjoy the lavish outdoor show at the Tropicana Club. That was one of the highlights during our nearly a week there in 2001. Having evening time in Havana is a must! Just some daytime "walking around time" is not enough to appreciate ALL that is there in this very unique and historic city.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

From our Jan. 25-Feb. 20, 2015, Amazon River-Caribbean combo sailing over 26 days that started in Barbados, here is the link below to that live/blog. Lots of great visuals from this amazing Brazil river and these various Caribbean Islands (Dutch ABC's, St. Barts, Dominica, Grenada, etc.) that we experienced. Check it out at:

Among our Cuba highlights in 2001 was the lavish outdoor show at the Tropicana Club featuring 200 music and dance performers. At this lush tropical gardens in Havana's Marianao neighborhood, the show was amazing. Music in Cuba is one of the "best of the best" highlights while visiting here.:
