Dover port to Heathrow Transportation?

Recommended Posts

We are looking for transfers from the Dover cruise port to Heathrow with a stop for sightseeing, if that is possible. We arrive in Dover at 930am and have a 445pm flight out of Heathrow to Germany. Can someone recommend a company to transport us. It would be great if they could also transport us from Heathrow to our hotel in London pre cruise.

1) Whereabouts do you want to go sightseeing?

2) Depending on where you are in Germany, have you thought of using London City airport, which is much easier to get through than Heathrow and the right side of London for Dover.

Maybe Windsor or Dover Castle? Or any other suggestions between Dover and Heathrow. Unfortunately we have already booked our tickets from Frankfurt.

OK, sounds like you want a car service rather than use public transport. All the following have been used by CC members in the past.

Sorry I can't be more helpful, but I'm sure someone will chirp in with better advice.

Yes, both make sense.

Windsor Castle is the better bet:

- It's more iconic than Dover Castle.

- As well as its castle Windsor is a very pleasant town to visit, whereas to town of Dover is a very ordinary and its main roads are a constant stream of cars and trucks using the ferryport.

- And Windsor is about 8 miles from the airport, so any big delays on the way from Dover can be overcome by shortening your time at Windsor, or even abandoning it, in order to make your flight. Dover being at the start of your journey you'll not have the scope to make up for delays, so you'd need to allow more time for delays & if there's a huge delay (eg an accident which closes the motorway) you will possibly still miss your flight.

Leeds Castle (near Maidstone & nowhere near Leeds ) is another option. An attractive "fairytale picture-book" castle, with a long and interesting history.

But I still rate Windsor as by far the best choice.

No personal knowledge of the operators, but the list provided by Simon make sense. Those located at Dover/Folkestone are likely to give better value than London or airport-based operators, and being local to your pick-up point will be more reliable - no potential delays driving to pick you up, and they'll have other vehicles locally if there's a problem.

Yes, we want a car service, since we are traveling with 4 suitcases, 2 kids, a carseat and a pram. I will look into those links you posted. Thank you.

  • 1 year later...
Would anyone be knowledgeable to opine on this:

My ship arrives in Dover @ 0700. What is the earliest that I can get through the disembarkation/immigration/customs process to be met by a taxi?

Thanks!

Probably about 0800 if you do self disembark, but it would help if you could tell us what ship, what day and , if you need a bit more help, where you are going.
