Eagle Beach

You would want to be across the street (or close) to La Cabana Beach Resort. There is a beach bar (with Happy Hour beginning at 2) and there are beach boys who handle the chair concessions. They charge $15 for 2 loungers...and if you ask nicely, they might let you use one of the Palapas on the beach. We were just there 3 weeks ago, and as is our usual practice just took the local bus (about $2.25 one-way or $4 round trip) out to the beach (it is the same bus that goes to Palm Beach). Our favorite Aruba beach is Manchebo, which is near Eagle, but that beach does not have rentals for the public (we used to stay at the Manchebo Beach Hotel). So, for us, Eagle is the next best thing. We generally avoid Palm since its a bit too busy for our taste. But Palm does have the advantage of being near lots of facilities and restaurants.

If we took a taxi, where would we say we want to be dropped off?

Just tell the driver to take you to Eagle Beach :). They will drop you right where I mentioned which is directly in front of where they will rent you chairs. In fact, the drivers know all the best spots.

MVC on Eagle Beach rents chairs and palapas. You would probably have a better chance of getting both there rather than La Cabana. They also have a restaurant and bathrooms right across the street that you can use. Just tell the taxi driver to let you off at the beach at MVC. If they are full, you can walk down the beach to La Cabana and Paradise Beach Villas areas and see if there are any chairs for rent. Right after La Cabana is Amsterdam Manor, which also rents chairs. None of these places (other than MVC) generally have palapas available, as their resort guests claim them all before dawn (my hubby included :)).
