Getting to Trieste, Italy from Venice

I have never taken a Costa cruise but am looking at one with an itinerary I like. It starts in Trieste, Italy. How could I get there from Venice?

From VCE airport take airport bus to Mestre station (may be 15-20 min) and local train from there to Trieste. No need to buy train tickets in advance as local trains don't discount unlike fast intercity ones. My experience with that train that it broke and got stuck for an hour so we barely made the cruise. So allow extra time.

How do you go from Trieste trainstation to cruise terminal? Is it within walking distance or do you take a cab?
