Which ship to Alaska with 12,13 year olds?

We would like to leave out of Seattle, thinking of the Norwegian Star or RCCI Vision of the Seas. The Norwegion Star is about $1200 total less expensive than the Vision for an inside cabin. Is the Vision that much better? The last cruise we took in 04 was the Mariner of the Seas and our kids really did not use the kids programs much; they made friends and did things outside of the kids program. We thought it was nice but the kids actually liked the Carnival Sensation (older ship) better than the Mariner -- We did the Sensation in 2003. Which would you recommend? We would like something nice but want the kids to enjoy it also. Also thinking of the Celebrity Mercury or the Sun Princess but it appears they are not as kid friendly and appear to have an older crowd. Any opinons? Thanks so much!

The Star is a bit newer than the Vision OTS and has many more dining options. IMO-the Star is better for Alaska and it goes to Glacier Bay (don't know if the Vision does or not). The Vision is a good ship, we've sailed her twice-one of which was to Alaska, but to me Freestyle is the way to go to Alaska. Then you won't have to pick between watching the sunset or whales or going to your assigned seating for dinner.

Definately the Star, doesn't it go to Glacier Bay?? Also the Vision this year has no glacier sailing?? Verify the itineraries. I sailed both last year to Alaska. I certainly liked the freestyle better on NCL as well.

Haven't sailed VOS but would definitely recommend the Star for families with young children or teens. Many things to do on the ship and the Star's Blue Lagoon restaurant offers a variety of foods they can enjoy 24-7 including burgers, dogs, chili, etc.

And as posted before, NCL's freestyle dining gives you more leeway in eating times for dinner.
