Wow, this is terrific. Thanks so much for posting!!! That must have been a lot of work.

I will be on this cruise November 9. We don't stop in Izmir, but will go to another Greek island instead.

Question regarding excursions -- are there problems booking English excursions? We found this to be the case in the past -- with excursions cancelled at the last minute then too late to find another. We have already booked Rome and Olympia on line, but decided to wait until we got on board to decide on the rest.

Thanks for your imput!

I am also on this cruise but I embark in Civitavecchia.

From my past experience with Costa. Sometimes English speaking tours go and sometimes not.

So we either book with the French or Italian speakers.

We will take the ships tour in Volos and sit near the tour guide. They almost always speak English.

I was only on one excursion organized by Costa - in Izmir (Virgin Mary House & Ephesus).

Our bus was incomplete (approx. 60-70%) and I have not noticed any other group for the same type of trip with English guide; most was with Italian/German and some with our languages guide.

Thanks for the tour info -- will just keep fingers crossed that our tours are a go.

Two other questions -- 1) Regarding water in dining room. A few cruise reviews of the Pacifica mentioned that water was not automatically provided (for free) -- one had to BUY the water bottles or a package -- that would be the only way to have water with lunch or dinner. What?!? Have been on at least 20 Costa cruises in the past, including a trans-Atlantic last year, and have never heard of such of thing. Is this true? Something new??

2) Costa ships are non-smoking now in the Caribbean (except for a few areas on the outside deck and a small smoking room). Is this the case in the Mediterranean, or just in the Caribbean?

ad 1 - water in the cabin was available only in mini-bar (extra-paid); for breakfast and lunch water is available for free in buffet in machines (not bottled)

ad 2 - in general ship is smoking free except special places (cigar lounge and some places on external decks). I do not remember how it was in cassino-maybe there smoking is not prohibited

ad 1 - one more thing: maybe with higher status in Costa loyality program, free bottled water is delivered to the cabin - please check; if you have 20+ Costa cruises behind you, your status should be probably the highest:-)

I'm Pearl Gold and do not receive free bottled water in the cabin. Only water in a pitcher.

Luminosa and Deliziosa have smoking lounges. When I was last on, there were a few diehards in the casino who demanded their "rights" but I'm not aware of any smoking anywhere else. Luminosa is based in Miami this winter. Not sure about Mediterranea, which is the other Caribbean ship, won't be on board until March.

Some people have reported they were refused water at dinner on the neoRomanica, but this spring I was give a carafe when I asked for it. Maybe I just look like somebody who'll complain to the maitre d' or the hotel manager.

I'm gold also, and don't receive free bottles of water in cabin. I was just concerned about dinner in the dining room -- and the reviews that stated that water was not provided unless it was purchased.

A side note -- was on the Allure of the Seas recently, and there was no ice bucket in the cabin. Had to ask for ice. The steward asked if we wanted it daily, and we said yes. It was just filled once a day, however, not the usual twice. Cruise lines are certainly cutting back!

I didn't notice any carafes of water on our Magica TA last spring. I did see people bringing their own bottle of water.

We have been getting the AI drink package and used to be able to have unlimited bottles of water. Now the bartenders just pour a glass for you. This has cut back on a lot of waste.

I am afraid that at the moment every cruise operator is trying to cut costs everywhere...

For me the most painful thing was no alternative dinner in bufet (except of Istambul stay when it was organized once). But I learnt to live with it very quickly and it does not change my opinion that cruise was very good and well organized:-)
