Hello - We will be in Oahu for 4-7 days pre cruise. We don't really want to rent a car, but we will if we need to (6 people). Any suggestions would be appreciated for how difficult it is to rent a car/van for a single day vs. a reputable tour company to pick us up and take us on a tour of the North Shore sights and sounds. We have been to Hawaii before so we are somewhat familiar with the layout of Oahu.

Any advise or suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Our trip to Oahu in January included renting a car through Budget to drive our group of 4 to the North Shore. We have also been to Oahu in the past and would definitely rent a car again on our next trip. We were staying at the Hilton Hawaii Village but rented a convertible from Budget (not at Discovery Bay but from the rental company in I believe the Hyatt). We walked to pick up and drop off the car and only had it for the day. When renting from Discovery Bay, you have to have the car back by 3 p.m. but the Budget rental didn't have to be back until 9:30 p.m. Enjoy your visit to the beautiful island ~ Aloha!

We just returned from our cruise and would definitely recommend renting a car. We stopped at places that the locals suggested and saw sea turtles which we would have otherwise missed. Also, saw the huge banyan tree that is used in a lot of movies, again on suggestion by locals. Also, based on our mood we stopped at places for as long or as little and you have that kind of freedom when you are driving. Lots of fruit stalls that you can stop at and chat with the sellers and get tips on what to look for and where.
