Lisbon: NY Times Options, Ideas, Tips, Video, etc.!!

Recommended Posts

From the New York Times Sunday Travel section last weekend, they had this headline: "What to Do in Lisbon" with these highlights: "Everything old is new again in the Portuguese capital. Throughout the hilly metropolis on the Tagus River, fading structures and spaces are being stylishly reborn. Once-forlorn neighborhood markets have undergone ambitious renovations. Dodgy docklands boom with emergent night life in multiple guises. Even the city’s dowdy, underused central square and adjacent waterfront have been spruced up for lounging and strolling. The city’s classic historical charms, from art museums to industrialists’ mansions, remain beautifully intact, complementing their rejuvenated neighbors."

While we have been 22 different countries in Europe, Portugal is still on our to-do, wish-list. Look forward to seeing Lisbon!! This profile has lots of details, ideas and suggestions for potentials in Lisbon. This includes a long, well-crafted, six-minutes video about many sights and options in Lisbon. Many food potentials to consider.

Here is another example for the ideas outlined in this story: "Is there one place in Lisbon where you can dine on raw veal, tinned octopus meat, shaved ham, stewed clams, mango ice cream and cherry-flavored ginja liqueur? Why, Mercado da Ribeira, com certeza. Half of the 19th-century structure — still home to myriad produce stalls — was taken over in 2014 by Time Out magazine and elevated into a hangarlike, neo-industrial food court where top Lisbon chefs, favorite restaurants, upscale food shops and multiple bars ply their goods."

How do the experienced Lisbon experts rate some of the ideas in the story? Any key items missed?

It's kinda of cliché, as usual, you know.

It's difficult to tell you what to do, because first we don't know your tastes, and second if we were all alike, we always do the same things.

Among others aspects, it's highly unlikely that one is crazy enough to travel all the city often to go to Mercado da Ribeira just to eat what they mentioned. Occasionally, yes, but Lisbon doesn't work that way and i hope never will be.

Regarding food, for instance, in general terms you can eat quite well in all areas of the city.
