First night dress code

My DH was sent back to change from shorts to long pants when we went to the aft dining room.
Was this on the first night? On most ships the Aft MDR and Le Bistro dress codes that require long pants but usually have an exception on the first night.
We were just on the Gem a month ago. The Grand Pacific and Le Bistro were the only restaurants that specifically called for long pants and collared shirts (this was stated in the Freestyle Daily). We never did eat in the Grand Pacific but my wife and I did eat in Le Bistro and did follow the dress code (as did everybody else we saw eating there). In every other restaurant I wore shorts, sneakers, and a polo or a decent T-shirt with no problems.

The first night we just went to Magenta so no dress code. I didn't hear anybody taking about it but I would agree that they might wave the dress code for the first evening...at least for the early reservations.
