melika091900 Posted October 6, 2011 #1 Share Posted October 6, 2011 so our only options for the flight home after our cruise is 1030a or 655pm do you think 1030a is cutting it close??? we always drive to ports when we sail, so never had to deal with this except once from New orleans, got kicked off the ship at 830a flight was 7pm..sat at the airport all day.. wondering if we should stay another night after the cruise and fly out the next day? or just book the 1030a and hope we make it , any suggestions when sailing from galveston anyone do a flight that early and made it? we sail in april not sure about the fog then
CGBCruiser Posted October 6, 2011 #2 Share Posted October 6, 2011 I personally think 10:30 a.m. is pushing it. I know I would not feel comfortable trying to make that flight, although Hobby Airport is only about 45 min. from Galveston.
ssb Posted October 6, 2011 #3 Share Posted October 6, 2011 Yes, If ship in early you might make it, if you walk off with luggage (don't put it out to corridor at midnight) and take own cab. And not part of a group! We live in Galveston and sailed into Galveston a few times, and even been off by by 7:15 and home by 7:45 but thats not every time. You can make if everything goes right and you are in control of your circumstances! When are you sailing? If you are waiting till the evening flight you might as well stay over and try to enjoy Galveston. There is a lot to do in Galveston Main areas to stay On the Gulf (seawall)(many motels and hotels) On the Bay (Moody Gardens Hotel)) Downtown Old Town Historic District by Port - (Harbor House and Tremont) On highway coming into town(few) ---------------------- see INTERNET maps for visual of Greater Houston Metro and to get bearings of island galveston.com ....interact and discover.... maps Houston Map PDF Download Houston-area map in PDF Format: Houston Metro Galveston Island Map PDF Download Galveston-area map in PDF Format (note: this is a large, 11' wide, print-quality map, so please be patient): Galveston (B&W) Galveston (Color Hi-Resolution) ---------------------------- In my opinion San Luis, Hilton, Moody Gardens, Tremont, Galvez and Harbor House are the better hotels. Almost Packed Posted October 21, 2011 #5 Share Posted October 21, 2011 the one time i've been delayed coming back in...was in Galveston for fog. why fret and stress over making the flight. enjoy breakfast on the ship, take your time getting off and then visit galveston. I'd stay the night and fly out early the next am....but that's just me.
