Summer2017 Posted September 30, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 30, 2016 Hi, Booking the above for Alaska next year. It looks like my room will be on deck 4 - 2nd room from the front of the ship. I am reading that may not be a good idea, anyone?? Evidently the ship is filling up pretty fast and I will need to pay more if I want a different room. This one has an obstructed balcony but that means its not Plexiglas that you see through on the deck its aluminum any thoughts on being this close to he front? thank you
Rare Scrapnana Posted September 30, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 30, 2016 (edited) Welcome to Cruise Critic! Some people complain that the front of the ship gets more motion (it doesn't bother me) but your itinerary is usually very smooth so chances are that will not be a factor. Your cabin has a shower but no tub if that makes a difference. You can find a picture of a metal fronted balcony on a similar class Cunard ship here. Krazy Kruizers Posted September 30, 2016 #3 Share Posted September 30, 2016 Welcome to Cruise Critic. Should you encounter rough seas, you will feel the motion of the ship. When sitting on the verandah, unless you are a tall person, you will not be able to see over the railing. You have to stand to see the ocean. Sequim88 Posted September 30, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 30, 2016 (edited) Since Nieuw Amsterdam will be sailing from Vancouver it will be "inside" Vancouver Is. and sheltered. So not a lot of chance for ship motion. A couple spots are exposed to open ocean (like outside Prince of Wales Is.) but not bad. Generally the inside passage is pretty calm - like cruising on a lake. Now if this was a Transatlantic... no way. BTW - Welcome to Cruise Critic! Edited September 30, 2016 by Sequim88
