rosiepea Posted July 6, 2013 #1 Share Posted July 6, 2013 Why can't Mini cruises be organised from northern ports? It is too far to travel down south for a two or three night cruise. Is it not financially viable? We have looked at the brochures and thought how we would go a lot more if mini cruises went from up north. We do an awful lot of travelling to get to southern ports for longer cruises. As you go from Liverpool, Newcastle and Rosyth, surely these aren't impossible to organise? tiggertom Posted July 7, 2013 #2 Share Posted July 7, 2013 There are mini cruises from Liverpool, Greenock, Rosyth and Newcastle. We are looking at 14/8 from Rosyth to Norway and Orkney for 4 days. Check http://www.fredolsencruises.com/places-we-visit/Mini-Cruises. :)
simonpjd Posted July 8, 2013 #3 Share Posted July 8, 2013 Fref has more trips from northern ports than any of the other main lines. However we note that they are increasingly being offered at giveaway prices so maybe not selling too well ??
tring Posted July 17, 2013 #4 Share Posted July 17, 2013 You will find most of the mini cruises from northern ports are the translocation ones that start at one port and finish at another. Of course, that also involves what can be a very long coach journey at one end of the cruise, which is why those cruises go more cheaply. Even if you have to travel too a port, most people would find it is much easier to drive there and sail roundtrip from one base. Longer cruises with different start and finish ports go more cheaply on all cruise lines (e.g. one way trans-atlantic cruises).
rosiepea Posted July 17, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted July 17, 2013 Yes, we have noticed the odd mini cruise but they never seem to start and finish in the same place if they go from up north. That always seems such a nuisance. They do from southern ports. We have cruised from Newcastle, Leith, Greenock and Rosyth for longer cruises. Next year we have managed to link one from Dover to Honfleur with a longer cruise first, the Romantic one on Braemar and been able to get the same cabin on both. STEPHEN LARKIN Posted July 22, 2013 #6 Share Posted July 22, 2013 Fred has also scheduled in 5 departures from Belfast over 2013/2014, one of them is a mini cruise. I am sure if you look hard enough you will find what you want, I always do.
