We'll be traveling to St. Lucia on a cruise in January and was curious after the recent robberies on this island would it be safe to walk from Pigeon Island to Rodney Bay (wanting to check out the Indian Restaurant there). How is the neighborhood? Also, does anyone have any ideas on the cost for a taxi from the cruise port in St. Lucia to Pigeon Pointe??

Recent robberies? Curious as to your news source. Sure - there have been some robberies - pretty much like anywhere in the world. Robbers usually target locals though - it's rare for it to affect tourists. Exceptions may be easy target of opportunities just as anywhere else - ie flashing large amounts of cash or not keeping valuables secured, etc.

It's pretty safe walking from PI to Rodney Bay - but it's a long walk. You're looking at around 45-1 hour walk, give or take...head out from PI to the highway. Hang a right and walk down the "highway" to Rodney Bay... Alternatively, walk out from Pi past The Landings, along the deserted stretch of road and beach into Gros Islet and then through town to the highway and hang a right and head down to RB...this way is not recommended - deserted road and beach aren't a great idea for avoiding trouble!! Take the highway route - safer, more public, etc.

Make sure the Indian Restaurant you're interested in is open for lunch....

A taxi to Pigeon Island is $35us one way.....

Enjoy your visit.
