sasset Posted April 25, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 25, 2013 Back in 1979 we took a 52 day cruise round trip from Los Angeles around South America. These ships carried up to 100 passengers, but were primarily cargo ships. Done some Googling and reading here looking for something similar. What I find are cargo/freighters with a maximum of 12 passengers. Anyone know of anything similar to the old Santa's of Prudential/Delta cruising currently? Thanks The Santa Rosa and Santa Paula (Prudential-Grace Lines) no longer have this service, they went out of business in the 80's, like most American companies. There are a few passenger cargo freighters operating today, but none on that route. You can read about one in French Polynesia, the Aranui 3 on this board. sasset Posted April 26, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted April 26, 2013 Thanks Captain. I probably should have stated my question better. We've been looking for something a little different for a cruise. That brought back memory of the Santa Maria cruise in 1979. I know that that fleet is long gone. So far my searches only have found freighters with a maximum passenger load of 7. I was told that some carry as many as 12, but I haven't found any yet. I'm wondering if there are any ships in service that carry a few more passengers as the Santa's did (100). Would like to cruise with less than hundreds (or thousands) but with more than 5 fellow cruisers. Thanks again.
