Catalina no excursions?

Recommended Posts

We are taking the 4 day inspiration cruise to Catalina and Ensenada in February. We don't currently plan on doing excursions at either place. Any tips or ideas? Places we should go or avoid? We have 4 adults and 4 kids from 1y to 6y. Thanks!

Check out Catalina's Chamber of Commerce page. Lots of ideas.

We like to play mini golf. It's a physics course with no moving parts. Shaded with many native plants.

The Arcade has a ten pin lanes and very good pizza and salads.

Another idea is the semi-submersible sub.

For us, no trip to Catalina is complete without going to Lloyds for made onsite salt water taffy.

There are two Vons markets in Avalon.

'Island of the Blue Dolphins' is about the Native Americans living in the Channel Islands. It's on the fourth grade reading lists. Might be a good read aloud book for the 6yo.

The California Coastal board has more info.

Thanks will do! Very excited as this is the first time for my boys (4 and 6).

You can rent an electric cart and go to the Wrigley Monument. There's a native garden there and a ranger/nature center. We walk up there whenever we go to Catalina. There's also hiking trails. Visit the Avalon Ballroom. Take the kids to the beach which is right there and let them play in the sand. IMHO, it's not really a kid friendly island. Some of the bars serve food. There's always LA county sheriffs around so no need to be afraid.

No need to waste money to rent a cart to go the Garden. There are 2 trolleys that both go up to the Gardens. IIRC it is $4 one way and $7 round trip.
