Tours

Hi, we are going on a cruise in December and calling at Semarang, celukan Bawang and Lombok, We have already booked a tour for Komodo Island. I am asking for advice for tours on the islands I've listed and if you know of any private tour operators instead of the ships tours. Thanks in advance

In Semarang, if you are going to Borobodur - STRONGLY recommend a ship's tour as a great distance and lots of traffic. We were a caravan of 3 tour buses with police front and rear of the caravan. We did not stop for anything, drove in whatever lane that was open including opposing, drove very fast and we were just back to the ship in time for boarding. They would have waited (as they did for 3 other tour buses from the ship) but would not risk missing the ship on a private tour.

Hi, we have decided not to go to Borobudur cos of the long coach journey, we have an evening of entertainment booked when we are in Semarang. So we will more than likely just go into town in the morning.

Some in our party went on ship's excursion to Borobudur. They told us that they had a police escort to weave them through the traffic - but we already knew, cos we were exploring more locally in minibuses and saw their motorcade blasting through.

To go to Borobudur (2? hrs away) ship staff will advise that you take the ship's tour for the same reason. And just for a change, it's not the usual bull**** sales pitch.

Thank you for your input guys. We have booked the ship's tour for Borobodur as it does not seem feasible to do this privately. Love that we can ask the questions here!
