MotherofTrips Posted September 11, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 11, 2016 I have read posts on here of this private island being missed due to the seas being too rough for tendering. How often does that happen? Are some months worse than others? We are traveling November 2017 Sent from my iPhone using Forums
CruiserBruce Posted September 11, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 11, 2016 Can't answer specifically for GSC, but for HAL's Half Moon Cay (HMC), which is nearby, the miss rate is a little under 20%. In 8 visits we have never missed it...knock on wood. As to when, the winter months are the typical time, particularly November and December. That being said, we have visited HMC 3 times in those months, no misses. However, our only close call occurred in December.
sometimes sailor Posted October 26, 2016 #3 Share Posted October 26, 2016 FROM NCL 10/25/16 - ON GSC BOARD: (3:40 p.m. EDT) -- Damage from Hurricane Matthew has delayed the opening of Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian Cruise Line's private island in the Bahamas, until November 20. The popular cruise stop has been closed since August 25, as it undergoes renovations as part of the line's The Norwegian Edge program. When it opens, the island will have new attractions, dining venues (including a Jimmy Buffet restaurant), private villas, a lagoon, two zip lines, an underwater sculpture garden and a boardwalk. Great Stirrup Cay was intended to reopen on October 20. "Due to the storm's effects on the island and the resulting delays in construction, the island will remain closed for an additional four weeks to complete the planned upgrades," the line said in a statement.
