Discover Mexico and Chankanaab excursion questions

Has anyone done the Carnival excursion to Discover Mexico and Chankanaab Park? Considering doing this to get a little history in with snorkeling and beach time. Family of five - kids are 12, 16 and 17.

I'm pretty set on Chankanaab, just wondering if we should just go on our own.

One point of confusion - we are in port 1-10pm, the excursion says it's 5 hours starting at 2pm. Chankanaab website says they are only open until 5pm. So, do cruise guests get to stay longer?

Thanks for any advice! ;)

I have visited Discover Mexico and I enjoyed it.

I'd recommend just get a taxi and go on your own, it's 21 per person at the gate but there is a 2 dollar coupon that you can get. taxi from port is fairly cheap.

Chankanaab was nice but they seem to have re-branded it to an "adventure park". Sad to see that every beach in Cozumel needs to be a "Disney World" type of beach rather than a natural caribbean beach...now they offer zip lines, etc...

zip lines? That is certainly the exception, not the norm. I have been to Coz at least 15 times and I have yet been to a beach where there is a zipline. I think that is a great way to keep Chankanaab apart from the other beaches.
