Blue Grotto, Malta (by local bus)

Last time in Valletta we had no time to visit the Blue Grotto, so we don't want to miss it this time.

We have already done the HOHO Bus so was thinking of either hiring a car, or trying the local bus ?

Has anyone done the Blue Grotto by local transportation (and I don't mean taxi !!) Any hints most welcome !!
